Milepost, probably early C19, cast iron. Cylindrical post carries
curved plate inscribed CHURCH LAWTON 6 1/2 MILES; NEWCASTLE 13: HOLMES
CHAPEL 2 MILES; KNUTSFORD 10; WARRINGTON 21; LIVERPOOL 40, all in
raised sans serif capitals. W H SMITH AND CO: MAKER: WHITCHURCH in
oval pattern on post. A turnpike milepost.
