School, now house. Circa 1820, including re-used materials of C17; C20 alterations
and additions. Stone rubble and cob, rendered. Asbestos slate roof with gable ends.
Gable end stack to right with brick shaft.
Plan: Single room for a school room, heated from a stack At the right gable end and
with a porch entrance at centre of front. Divided internally in C20 with a rear
addition.
Exterior: Single storey, asymmetrical front with porch set off-centre to left. The
porch has a steep gable, re-used C17 granite doorway with 4-centred arch and recessed
spandrels, plank door. In the gable a round-arched niche on a corbel, with painted
lettering in upper case of C19, IVY COTTAGE. To right and left is a 3-light window,
with round-arched lights. The right end is blind with a small single storey lean-to.
The left end formerly had a similar 3-light window, now blocked.
Rear has C20 single storey lean-to.
Interior: Not inspected.
Ivy Cottage was used as a school for the Carnanton estate; it became a house after
the St Mawgan School (q.v.) was built in 1863.
