11/23 Elmtree House
GV II
House. Early C19 with C18 wing to rear, altered. Roughcast and exposed
brick, C20 cement tile and pantile roofs. L-shaped plan comprising 2-storey,
3-bay front with lower wing to rear right of 2 storeys and 2 bays and with
1-storey-and-attic single bay beyond. Entrance front: roughcast and with
C20 cemented quoins, central part-glazed door and overlight with radial
glazing bars beneath consoled cornice. Flanking bays have shallow bows with
projecting sills to C20 casements on each floor; similar window over door.
Cornice beneath coped parapet. Large projecting end stacks with
mock-stonework render. Left return: unaltered wing set back on left; its
taller part on right with old panelled door beneath segmental arch on right
of C20 casement beneath similar arch; old 2-light horizontally-sliding sashes
to 1st floor. Low part of wing to left has door on right of casement in
widened opening and old boarded door to loft on left. Cogged eaves, shaped
kneelers and gable copings to each part of wing, end stack to lower part,
ridge stack to taller part on right which retains pantiles.
Interior: early C19 staircase to front range; part to rear said to have old
spiral staircase.
