Sundial. 1716 dial on early C20 pedestal. Brass plate and gnomon on buff
terra-cotta moulded pedestal. A square engraved dial plate about 200mm
square with angular openwork gnomon. Square-section terra-cotta pillar
about lm high with square top and base. Lotus leaf ornament to cap and
each face of shaft. Inscription 'This Dial was made for/John St. Alban
in 1716 for/Alfoxton Hall Alfoxton Devonshire/ Wordsworth and Coleridge/
are known to have been there/ in 1796'.
