and adjoining barn

Farmhouse and barn. Mid or late C17 barn and early C18 farmhouse. Cement
rendered walls, under graduated greenslate roof with brick chimney stacks. 2
storeys, 3 bays with long barn to left under common roof. Top-glazed panelled
door in painted stone architrave. Sash windows with glazing bars in painted
stone surrounds. Barn has 2 doorways, one nearest house with C17 Tudor-arched
surround under hoodmould (may have had inscription). Loft doorways and openings
with stone surrounds. Through archway to extreme left. Rear wall has built-in
coat-of-arms thought by owner to have come from Holme Cultram Abbey. Probably
home of the Barwise family in C17. Further barn extension is not of interest.
