GV 12.9.91 II

------------------------------------

The following building shall be added-

DEBDEN

TL 53 SE GREEN CROFT LANE

18/1552 Garden wall immediately
to west and south of
Amberden Hall.

GV II

Wall with gateway. C16 and C17. Red brick in random and Flemish bond.
Forms boundary to garden on west and south sides of house with a short
section of C20 rebuilding at reduced height on the south.
Approximately 8-10ft high. Chamfered plinth. Cogged cornice. Moulded
brick capping. The wall meets the moat on the east side rather than
returning to the north. The Royal Commission on Historic Monuments
suggested the wall formed part of the northwest wing of the hall of
c.1560 which was demolished, but it is more probable that part of the
wall was built with bricks from the demolished wing. RCHM Essex NW Vol
I 1916 p.77.
