Description

The following building hall be added:-

SOMERSBY
TF37SW Mud and Stud House
approx 25m north of
1512-0/2/10000 Church of St Margaret

II

House, now vacant and partly collapsed. Mid C18 and late C19. Mud and stud with some
brick patching to east front. Plain tile roof with central ridge stack. Single storey plus attic.
East front has an off-centre board door flanked to left by a sliding sash. Window to the right
sheeted over. Above the door, a large tile hung gabled dormer with a 2-light sliding sash.
Framing with a diagonal brace exposed in north east comer. Remainder of building covered
in ivy at time of survey.
Barley's illustration shows 2 rooms divided by a central fireplace, with a buttery off the main
room, and a chamber over. This is a vernacular plan, current from the early C17. This
building is a little altered example and therefore of special interest.
