SO 71 SW WESTBURY-ON-SEVERN CHAXHILL

11/199 Pound Farmhouse


GV II

Farmhouse: mid-late C18; random rubble walls, tiled roof. L-
plan, 1-room deep: 2-storey. Entrance front has gabled
projection on left: 3-light mullioned window, offset to right in
wall, timber frame, iron opening casement. Plain stone lintel in
one piece, with flared ends. In main block windows widely spaced,
one each end as in cabled wing, save that window at right end has a
dummy keystone scribed on it. Front door slightly left of centre,
4-panel door, upper glazed, under cambered brick arch. Elliptical
open hood above on brackets, covered lead. First floor main block
3 windows, outer 3-light as below, centre 2-light, slightly out-of-
line with front door: no lintels as heads at eaves level. In
gabled wing centre 2-light window, 'CHEESE ROOM' inscribed on
lintel. Top of gable built in yellow brick to match stone.
Hipped roof to main block; 2 brick chimneys on ridge, one in line
with wing, one to right of front door. Groups with barn, (q.v.).
