Small simple cottage,said to be former Free Grammar School. Possibly C18 but much altered. Hammer dressed stone.Quoins.Stone slate roof.Single storey.Stone porch to front,early or mid C19, with reset doorway with lintel dated 1706.Above is an early or mid C19 plaque inscribed:'FREE Grammar School A.D. 1667'.The cottage has recent and C19 openings and a recent bay.To the rear is a C19 mono-pitched extension. The date 1706 refers to the time when the school was enlarged.H. N. Pobjoy,A History of Mirfield,1968.
