Farmhouse. Late medieval, possibly of 3 different builds with C16 additions
at extremities. Timber framed, plastered between studwork, part weatherboarded,
corrugated iron roof replacing thatch. Brick stack. 2 storeys with attics,
cross passage plan with inbuilt stack bay and single cell hall with possibly
additional parlour cell at right, lower end with single cell service bay
at left, possibly originally further subdivided. Ground floor open with
no cladding and studwork surviving on facade. Soffits of 4-centred arch
of cross passage. Off centre inbuilt brick stack with richly moulded bresummer
with cornice to ground floor, 4-centre chamfered arched bresummer to first
floor, stone cheeks to fireplaces. In situ door off cross passage in stack
bay at rear. Ground floor hall and parlour have stopped and chamfered
spine beams, close set joists. Mortices for post and panel screen between
hall and parlour, mortices for oriel and for sliding internal shutters
in north wall plate of hall. First floor chamber above hall has mortices
of 4 light diamond section mullioned window, one moulded mullion in situ.
Close stud walls with passage braces on R. wall of first floor room. Wider
stairs to attic in stack bay at north. Roof over earlier centre build
has 3 Queen post struts supporting through clasped purlins, windbraces
and ridgeless apex. Roof over R additions has close set paired rafters
and collars. Roof over left service addition has single collar to principal
rafter, gable run down as long outshut to ground floor level. Service
wing originally floored with possibly 2 ground and one first floor chambers.
Roof half hipped at R, long outshut gable at left.
