Lychgate to the west of Holy Rood Church

GV II
Lychgate. Dated 1899. Perpendicular style. Openwork timber frame structure on a low plinth wall of rubble and ashlar and tiled roof. Two bays. Decorative tie beams support a queen post arcade with arched infill panels below the collar. There are scalloped bargeboards with pendants to the gables. Wooden double gates to the road side with pintle hinges. An inscription to the tie beam reads "ERECTED TO THE DEAR MEMORY OF ELIZABETH BRADLY HOWARD BY HER ONLY SISTER EDITH E. B. JUDGE 1899".
An unaltered C19 memorial lychgate grouping with a listed church.
