GV II

Two houses and former rear stable wing. Late C18 with C19 additions.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roofs with moulded stacks to party walls and rear.
EXTERIOR: Three storeys and basement, three window fronts. The coped parapet, cornice, frieze and ground floor platband are returned to the left. Plate glass sash windows, those to the front with moulded architraves. In three semicircular arched recesses that rise from the platband almost to the second floor sills, the central first floor window has a pediment, the flanking windows have cornices; splayed reveals to the first floor. The left return has blind tripartite windows to the right, paired six/six pane sash windows to the left and one over a mid C19 two storey set back porch with a parapet and cornice, six panel door to the front, one window above and two to the left return. The ground floor platband continues around the porch. No.11 and the facsimile rebuilt house to the right are similar to Nos. 12-21 (qv). Three storeys, attic and basement; one window range. Slate mansard roofs with plate glass windows to paired dormers, continuous coped parapet, cornice and frieze, second floor sill band, ground floor cornice and banded rustication below the ground floor sills. Six/six pane tripartite sash windows, those to the first floor have consoles on narrow pilasters rising from the ground floor cornice that support cornices and friezes with double festoons to the centres and paterae to the sides. Semicircular arches to six panel doors and fanlights with radial glazing bars to the left. The former Nos. 9 and 10 are now united as one property, presently a hotel. The rear single storey stable block is part of the accommodation.
