Description

Later 19th century. Single storey mirrored pair of farm

cottages, currently (1988) combined as one. Squared and

snecked, stugged sandstone; chamfered arrises to openings,

and hoodmoulds to windows.

S ELEVATION: sited on roadside. Tripartites to each cottage

at centre, flanked by doorways with wide, low, timber

consoled, gabled porches, and bipartites to outer bays.

W GABLE: single window at centre.

E GABLE: sympathetic gabled porch addition.

N ELEVATION: circa 1900, harled, piend roof extension from

right with lean-to porch at centre; blank outer bay to left. Horizontal-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows.

Timber bracketted barge boards to gables, with moulded stone eaves-putts; purple slates. Moulded coping to gable end and

mutual gable stacks.

Statement of Interest

Steading lies to NW, not included in current listing. Cottage

is an example of a pattern book type of farm cottage, with

hoodmoulds and porches. Rubble coped rubble retaining walls

to E and W.
