Description

Probably later 19th century. Single storey and attic pair of 3-bay

asymmetrical semi-detached cottages with distinctive vermiculated details. Cream sandstone frone, stugged ashalr with polished dressings, whinstone rubble to rear and sides. Base course; stop-chamfered reveals; vermiculated quoins and eaves band; finialled canted dormers with stop-chmfered reveals and chevron cornices.

E (FRONT) ELEVATION: each cottage consisting of doorway to centre with plate glass fanlight (panelled door to No 2), narrow window flanking (No 1 to right, No2 to left); Bipartite windows to outer bays; 2 dormer.

W (REAR) ELEVATION: irregular openings, small additions.

N ELEVATION: gabled with apex stack.

S ELEVATION: as above.

Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. Corniced apex stacks with octagonal cans. Lugged ashlar skews with vermiculated pendant.

INTERIOR: not seen 1994.

Statement of Interest

Good profile and good example of carving traditional to later 19th century Peebles.
