Description

Mid 19th century; refurbished and extended circa 1980. Regular 4-storey and basement 18-bay office (formerly warehouse and printing works), with modern extension to E. Stugged coursed cream sandstone. Base course. Doorpiece with massive consoled cornice to 3rd bay from right, and wrought-iron bracket. Band (former eaves) course above 2nd floor; corresponding 3rd floor later. Similar rear elevation with stair windows at E end; 6 garages at W end.

Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Grey slates.

INTERIOR: W end fireproof with brick vaults supported on cast-iron columns; cross vaults at basement. Thoroughly modernised and united with extension.

Statement of Interest

Original blocks built in two stages for William and Robert Chambers; a break in the build can be clearly discerned between the centre bays, at which point the vaults begin.
