SX75NE Granary immediately N of
5/187 Ashwell

GV II

Granary probably over a store. Circa late C18 or early C19. Slate rubble.
Scantle slate half-hipped roof.
Rectangular on plan with external stone stairs with slate treads and a C20
wooden balustrade at the left hand/west gable end giving access to the
first floor doorway which has a slate canopy on wooden cantilevers and a
flush panel door. Under the stairs is the doorway to the ground floor
which has a 2-panel door. Both doors probably come from inside the house.
2-light casement on first and ground floor of the south front. The ground
floor is at higher level at the rear where there is one first floor 2-light
casement. All openings have wooden lintels.
Roof: collars are nailed to the faces of the principal rafters.
