House. Mid C19 for Brancepeth Estate. Tooled snecked sandstone with ashlar
dressings. Graduated green slate roof and rebuilt brick chimney stacks.
Jacobean style. 2-storey, 2-bay right section with tall projecting cross-
gabled left bay of 2 storeys and attic. Chamfered plinth. Replaced door and
overlight in centre bay, in moulded surround with shouldered head. Double-
chamfered, stone-mullioned windows. Right section has 3-light mullioned-and-
transomed window on ground floor and two cross windows above in gabled half
dormers with ball finials. Wide left bay has identical 3-light window on
ground floor, cross window above, single light in attic and shaped gable with
ball finials on footstones and apex. 3-bay left return has identical features:
shouldered doorway flanked by 3-light windows and cross windows in 3 gabled
half dormers. Shaped gable on rear of wing. Steeply-pitched roofs. 2 rebuilt
ridge stacks on roof of right part. Nos. 1 to 12 (consecutive) form a
continuous row.
