House, C15, extended in C16. Timber framed, plastered, roof thatched. 2-bay
hall aligned N-S with axial chimney stack at N end inserted in late C16, and
inserted floor. Original storeyed parlour/solar bay to S. Aspect E. Service-
bay to N demolished in C16 and replaced by 2 bay and off-centre chimney stack,
and C17 extension beyond. One storey and attics. Plain boarded door, 5 C20
casement windows, and 3 C19 casement windows in gabled dormers. Roof half-
hipped at S end. The interior has jowled posts, with half-octagonal attached
shafts on the central posts of the hall. The original floor of the S bay has
lodged joists of horizontal section arranged longitudinally, with a trimmed
stair trap. Hall windows are present on both sides, one with 3 diamond
mullions, the other with 5. The inserted floor of the hall has an axial beam
and horizontal joists, all chamfered with step stops, supported on pegged
clamps. The original smoke vent at the S end of the roof is of particular
interest, with mortices for a projecting hood. The sides of the S hearth have
been rebuilt. The floor of the C16 extension has an axial beam, chamfered with
step stops, and plain horizontal joists. RCHM 10.
