Barn. Early C17, altered in C18. Timber framed, tarred elm weatherboards,
roofed with corrugated asbestos. 7 bays aligned E-W, with one midstrey to N and
one to S. C19 lean-to extension to S of E part of main range, C20 lean-to
extensions to N and W. Roof half-hipped at both ends. The 3 E bays were
originally aisled to the N, with straight arcade braces, now infilled with
nailed girts and studding. Jointed and pegged girts and studding to E and S.
Jowled posts (the jowls cut back) and bolted knees replacing the former arched
braces to the tiebeams. The 3 W bays have jowled posts and original jointed and
pegged girts and studding. The N midstrey is a separate structure, with
unjowled posts and jointed and pegged girts and studding, probably later C17.
The S midstrey is an C18 addition, and the wallplates of it are continuous with
the C18 tiebeams to each side of the central bay, with face-halved and bladed
scarfs. The farm buildings which abut to the S of the W part of the main range
are not included in this item.
