Barn. C16. Timber framed, weatherboarded, roofed with corrugated bituminous
sheeting. 5 bays with 2 aisles aligned NW-SE with midstrey to NE. Later
buildings of no special architectural or historic interest abutting to NW and
NE. Jowled posts, arched braces to arcade plates and tiebeams. Edge-halved and
bridled scarfs in arcade plates over posts. Jowled aisle ties trenched for
Kentish shores, which are missing. Much re-studding with primary straight
braces in walls, but main frame is original. Original rafters of horizontal
section in mainspan, with gauging holes. High clasped purlins, each collar
supported by a single post mounted on the tiebeam, a rare or unique construction
in Essex. Intermediate tiebeams and some intermediate arcade posts of later
construction.
