TL 515 073 MAGDALEN LAVER
5/32 Weald Lodge
House, C18, altered in early C19 and C20. Brick and timber framing, plastered,
roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Double pile near-square plan, with main
elevation to S (now the garden elevation), central entrance/staircase hall,
2 internal chimney stacks symmetrically arranged in E-W cross-wall. 2 storeys
and attics. Single storey extension to W, early C19, with slate roof and
central chimney stack, now terminating below roof. Conservatory to W. All
roofs hipped. S elevation; glazed door with marginal lights and shallow
pedimented hood on scrolled brackets, early c19, 3 french windows with marginal
lights, early C19, 2 C20 casement windows. First floor, 3 double-hung sash
windows of 16 lights, C18. N elevation under alteration when inspected, May
1983, with 2 hipped dormers. Staircase with rosewood handrail and 2 slender
turned balusters to each tread, scrolled tread ends, some associated panelling.
In S elevation, 3 french windows complete with folding internal shutters. The S
elevation was a symmetrical composition before the alterations of the early
C19, which affected the ground floor only. The vehicle approach is now at the
N, formerly the farmyard.
