Two houses in row. C14; extended in C16; C19 alterations.
Restored in C20 by C.D. Carus-Wilson. Timber-framed; part extended
and rebuilt in brick; C20 brick chimneys; stone slate roof.
Single-storey with attic; 3-bay; extended to north; single-storey
wing at north east corner. Front: square framing on mixed brick
and lias plinth; C20 brick infill to panels; plank door to original
house; altered scattered casements; 3 C20 timber-framed gabled
dormers; brick-built wing to right with gable end chimney. South
end: half-hipped and square-framed with jowled corner posts;
framed-up casements. West side: small-framed with scattered
casements of C19 and C20; 2 dormers, 1 gabled, 1 raking; plank door
to right. North end: rebuilt gable end in brick with projecting
brick chimney stack; C20 casements.
Interior of original house has 3 cruck frames; 1 visible in attic
room is of very thin section and chamfered; lower part of arched-
brace to collar above ceiling also chamfered, possibly the dividing
bay of an open hall. Cross passage inserted in C16. (N.W.Alcock,
