ST 79 NW ALKINGTON -
5/30 Goldwick Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Mid C18, with small C19 addition to rear. Coursed
rubble stone, Cotswold stone slate roof, 3 stone stacks with flat
moulded cornices. L-plan with additional small wing on left rear
corner. 2 storeys, 4 bays, 3 windows, 3 and 4-light leaded
casements with straight voussoir arches to left and plain lintel to
right. Bay 3 right of centre has small Regency balcony on 1st
floor, glazed with some coloured etched glass in margins, with
swept lead roof, over elaborate wrought iron trelliswork porch of
same period. 6-panel door, top 4 glazed, lower 2 bolection moulded.
Ground floor has one 3-light leaded casement to left, 3-light full
length fixed window in bay 2 with etched blue and red glass in
margins, 3-light C20 french doors to right of porch. 6 round tie
bar ends at eaves level with 6-point star, repeated on rear facade,
which has 6-panel door on a line with front door, top 4 panels
fielded, 2 flush, with large cambered wooden hood on large
brackets, and round-headed window with Gothick intersecting leading
over. Rear wing of L, a former stable block with artificial stone
slate roof has round-arched passageway linking it to house, central
round arched door and 2 flanking 3-light leaded casements formerly
2 doors, and 2 similar windows centred over. C19 2-storey addition
has twin narrow gables with small Venetian-style window in each on
1st floor and even smaller ones on each side set awkwardly into the
stonework beneath small pedimented piece of parapet with ball
Interior has fine timber dog-leg stair with turned balusters, and
large fireplace with original timber bressumer in front room to
left of porch with large lateral stack.
