13/79 Brookside (Iles's Mill) including
garden wall to north (previously
28.6.60 listed in Minchinhampton CP)
Detached house. Late C17; c1730 additions. Coursed rubble and
ashlar limestone; ashlar and artificial stone rebuilt chimneys;
stone slate roof. Three-storey; 2-storey additions. East front:
symmetrical with 3-window mullioned leaded iron casements, all 2-
light; dripmould to ground floor, separate hoodmoulds to upper
floor. Central moulded doorway with 6-panel door. Gabled end
chimneys. Two gabled balancing wings are small, each having coved
stone eaves and segmental arched upper floor window opening with
keyed moulded architrave and bull-nosed sill, left with 24-pane
sash, right blocked. Lower screen wall extends to left with oval
arched opening, now blocked. North side: gable end of original
house has fine doorway with eared architraves and elaborate shell
hood on carved brackets; C20 glazed door. c1730 wing to right has
3-window fenestration, all C19 four-pane sashes in keyed
architraves. West side: central rear stair wing with hipped roof
and 12-pane sash. Lean-to addition to right. Interior not
inspected. Attached garden wall incorporates square headed doorway
with iron-railed gate and round cart turning area allowing exit
from mill track opposite.
