13/272 Mill building and chimney
stack approximately 20m
north east of St Mary's Mill


Mill building and chimney stack. Early C18; mid-late C18
enlargement. Mid C19 chimney. Coursed rubble limestone; tall
red brick chimney; corrugated iron roof. Three-storey. South
east side: part to right appears original with three middle floor
3-light chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds; 2-light to
ground floor has hoodmould linking with doorway. Paired 4-pane
sashes under timber lintel to left. Upper floor and range of
windows to left are later additions; timber windows with iron
opening casements. Eaves-mounted chimney to left. South west
end: original line of roof visible, single-window fenestration;
blocked 3-light to ground floor, 2-light above, both with
hoodmoulds. Tall detached chimney stack has square tapering shaft
with stone bands at base and cap. Single-storey brick-built
office building to east is not of special interest. Interior not
inspected. Parts of building in poor structural condition at time
of survey (September 1986). Forms part of group with St Mary's
House (q.v.) and St Mary's Mill (q.v.).
