Originally a portable airship shed erected in 1910-11. It was designed
to be easily dismantled and re-erected and was of metal girders with a
canvas covering. After 1914 the frame was dismantled and the curved top
frames re-erected and covered with corrugated iron sheeting to house the
Royal Aircraft Factory's foundry. Metal-framed building with roof of curved
girders, which was originally shaped to contain an airship. Continuous
roof lights. Aisles added about 1914. Covered in corrugated iron sheeting.
Fixed casement windows. Since the two original airship sheds at Farnborough
have been dismantled this building retains the greatest association with the
development of airships there, a significant chapter in the history of early
