Browns Farmhouse

II

C16, 1696, late C19, C20. A timber-framed (east-west) structure with a massive stack
attached to its south side, enclosed in a larger southward extension, now the main
part, with small single-storeyed rear additions of the last period. 2-storeys. Tile
roofing, grooved chimney and a tapered stack attached to the south gable. Walling of
red brickwork in English bond, rubbed flat arches, 1st floor band, high moulded
plinth: the moulded verge and eaves band forming the south gable is repeated above
the narrow 2-storeyed porch; the exposed walling to the older part is early C19
Flemish bond with blue headers. Casements. The porch retains its upper window, its
dated brick (1696) in the gable, but the doorway is now replaced by a window; other
entrances are in the modern section.
