26.4.57 Statue of George I
1722. A gift from the King to the third Duke of Bolton. On the axis of the house, the
lead equestrian sculpture has a Roman figure seated on a horse (with right fore-leg
raised), standing on a tall pedestal. This stone base is a rectangle, with attached
semi-circular ends; with a blocking course, moulded cornice, a moulded base on a
stepped plinth, the middle section having plain panels to each face, with moulded edges.
