6/14 Barn at Wield House Farm

Barn. C17 with walls mainly reclad in late C18 or early C19 with C20
inserted windows, patches of brickwork and asbestos sheeting to roof. 6 bays.
Walls of brick, originally of English bond but mostly replaced in Flemish
bond. Roof originally thatched but now covered in corrugated iron sheeting.
Gables have some weatherboarding. 1 stepped brick buttress. Walls have some
inserted pivotting metal casements and 1 round-headed arch, now with stable
door and section of C20 brickwork. S and cross-shaped iron ties. Roof is of
a most unusual middle cruck arrangement with collar beam and spurs to
wallplate and clasped purlins. Pegged rafters but inserted ridgepiece. Good
set of carpenters' marks.
