Description

SU 84 NW HEADLEY FRENSHAM LANE

8/27 Peters Barn

II

House, formerly 2 cottages. Early and late C16, with early C20 restoration and
extension. Timber frame, with a tile roof. A late-medieval hall, with a C16
extension at the west side: front (south) of 2 storeys, 4 (irregular) windows.
The roof at the west end is hipped below a gablet, at the rear is a catslide,
now broken by 2 gabled, tile hung, upper rooms. Shafted stack. Exposed frame,
indicating different phases of construction, with brick and stone infill. C20
casements. Plain doorways (one filled). Inside, there is an early Tudor wood-
framed fireplace (the chimney breast appearing to be attached to the outside of
the original frame), this backing onto another massive fireplace (within the
later addition) of brickwork with a Tudor-arched opening; these fireplaces may be
contemporary, having been built within a smoke bay.
