6/8 War Memorial Cloister


Memorial commemorating the war of 1914-18. c 1920, by Sir Herbert Baker.
Arcade is made up of heavy timber-framing, with a stone rear wall, lowered
at the last bay, beneath framing. The roof is of stone (Horsham) slates,
ending at each side as a gable. The building is in the form of an arcade on
3 sides of a square (open to the south side), which has a garden with a
monumental cross in its centre. The walkway has stone flags, and steps to
the garden: on the rear wall are metal plaques with embossed lettering. The
cross is traditional, on an octagonal base, above steps.
