4/82 Bournehouse Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Early Cl7, partly rebuilt mid-C19. Part timber-framed with
painted brick and rendered infill panels, part painted and roughcast brick,
plain tiled roofs and large external brick stack to rear main range and
two small external brick stacks to front and rear of original part. Hall
and cross-wing type plan, hall on west/east axis with cross-wing at east
gable end; hall range rebuilt in brick and of one bay with additional bay
lower in height at west gable end; cross-wing of two framed bays; mainly
two storeys and attic; dentilled eaves cornice to rebuilt range. Framing:
cross-wing has four square panels from sill to wall-plate, short straight
braces in upper corners and tie-beam trusses in gable ends with two collars,
queen struts and V-struts in apex. Front elevation: main, rebuilt range
has ground and first floor 3-light casements with cambered heads, wide
doorway adjacent to cross-wing with open pediment on consoles and 6-panelled
door, two upper panels of which are glazed; the adjoining left wing has a
ground floor casement with cambered head; a verandah on timber posts with
small, shaped brackets runs across the full width of the main part and left
wing; the cross-wing gable end has a 2-light ground and first floor casement
and an attic light; continuous plank weathering runs above ground floor
windows. Interior: cross-wing roof has two rows of trenched purlins and
an intermediate collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen struts. Room to rear
of cross-wing on ground floor has Cl7 panelling with upper frieze and there
is a Tudor-arched doorhead into the room above. At rear are mid-C19 and
mid-C20 lean-to additions.
