House. Early C17, extended late C17 with some late C20 restoration.
Timber-frame on coursed rubble ground floor with slate roofs. L-plan
house, one limb extending to west along street, other limb to south
extended in late C17. Main stack at junction of two wings. East front:
gabled earlier range to right of two storeys with three windows, two
fixed casements flanking a window with three diamond-plan wooden mullions.
Entrance to left of a 4-light C20 casement has a four-panel door. To
left of this a two-storey block with painted rubble walls and one timber
cross-window. Ground floor has a 3-light casement. To extreme left the
three-storey late Cl7 addition has two timber cross-windows, with two
2-light casements to the second floor. Framing: earlier portion has close-
studding with mid-rail to first floor side walls, and is three square panels
high on the gable, all with straight tension braces. The gable-end truss
has two collars and multiple struts. The late C17 portion is framed to second
floor, three square panels high. Interior: exposed stopped and chamfered
ceiling beams to most rooms. The main chimney stack has a moulded mantel
beam on the north side (not only half remaining) and a plain mantel beam
to inglenook on south. (RCHM 3, p 138,no 3).
