A pair of cottages dating from the C18.

MATERIALS: Built of rough coursed rubble stone with a slate roof and brick chimney stack.

PLAN: The two-storey building was originally roughly square in plan and has C20 extension to the rear. The chimney stack is central to the front range and would have served the two principal ground floor rooms.

EXTERIOR: The principal façade is a symmetrical arrangement of two bays and two storeys. There is an eight-over-eight hornless sash window on each storey on each side which are vertically aligned and have projecting stone cills. They have moulded box-frame cases which are flush with the façade. The front doors, at either side of the building, are solid with fielded panels and sit within moulded frames; they have stone doorsteps. The eaves project slightly from the building.

HISTORY: Bromyard is a small market town that was first recorded in circa 840. Nos. 11 and 15 Sherford Street are situated on one of the principal thoroughfares leading to the market square at the heart of the old town. Much of the town appears to have been built up by the early C17, though many of the plots have been re-developed since that time.

The front range of the building seems to retain its original plan form. There have been C20 extensions to the rear.

REASON FOR DESIGNATION: Nos. 11 and 15 Sherford Street, a pair of C18 cottages, are designated at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
* Architectural: it is a modest yet well-proportioned vernacular building
* Intactness: they retain their original plan form, despite extension to the rear
* Historic: they substantially pre-date 1840
* Group value: with the other listed buildings in the vicinity
