Description

SO 75 SE ALFRICK CP FOLLY ROAD

4/17 Folly Farmhouse

-

- II

Farmhouse. C16 or earlier with later additions. Timber-framed upper floors
to earlier part with wattle-and-daub and partly brick infill; brick with
fictive timbering to C19 addition; tiled roofs. Apparently hall and cross-
wing plan with entrance in angle. 2 storeys; irregular fenestration; main
part has projecting gable to right underbuilt in brick and with one range
of windows; to left, taller "hall" range overlaps, this has one window in
centre on first floor and one to ground floor to left of entrance; 4 panel
mid C19 door. Lower apparently mid C19 extension to left has 2 C20 case-
ments on first floor, one C20 casement with cambered head and one plain
C19 sash on the ground floor; gable end chimney stacks, the right hand one
being the one belonging to the main part of the house. Rear, the timber-
framing is in better condition and the cross-wing retains its jetty. Various
lean-to additions of later date on either side of house and to rear. It is
suggested that the left hand wing is part of an earlier lower cruck-built
main range which was partly raised and floored in the C17, thus giving
the central (entrance) portion.
