5/12 Barn about 25 yards east of
Pen-twyn Farmhouse

Barn. Probably C18, extended in late C19. Rubble base, timber-frame,
weatherboards, corrugated iron roof. 5 bays, full height entrance doors
to fourth bay from north. Frame is complete despite the re-cladding of
the roof, 3 panels high from cill to wall-plate. Interior: raking struts
from tie-beams to principals, woven panels in oak laths to partition
between first and second bay from north; tension braces to door posts.
Former south gable end wall (now extended by 2 bays brick slate roofed
extension with machine cut king-posts - not included) has infill panels
below tie-beam each consisting of 3 horizontal oak planks let into grooves
in the sides of adjacent studs. Group value with Pen-twyn Farmhouse.
