Parish church. 1901-2 by W R Lethaby commissioned by Alice Madeleine
Foster in memory of her parents, Eben D and Julia M Jordan. Coursed and
squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, concrete vaults, thatched
roof, weatherboarded cladding and tiled roof to bell tower over south porch.
Nave, south porch with bell tower, crossing tower, north and south transepts,
chancel. In the style of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Nave: 3-light square-
headed window to left and similar window and further square headed light to
right of south porch with bell tower over; pyramidal roof and latticed vents,
two plain chamfered orders to steeply pointed-arched doorway; semi-circular
headed inner doorway with moulded jambs, decorative panels above doorway of
central cross with stars flanked by four flying doves; gable end of south
transept to right with till square-headed window; latticed tracery with
elongated quatrefoil to upper lozenge. Square and squat central tower with
chevron ornament below parapet, two square headed windows with undulating
lattice type tracery, two pairs of triangular headed windows to east and
west faces of tower; chancel: two square headed windows with pair of quatre-
foils to each. Interior reveals use of concrete in vault, with steeply pointed
transverse arches in sandstone, interior fittings are contemporary with church.
Font by Lethaby circular bowl with entwined vine motif in relief, choir stalls
with panelled reliefs of hedgerow flowers. Tapestry flanking altar designed
by Burne Jones and made by Morris & Co of two angels. The church is a fine
and impressive example of its date. (BoE, p 91).
