3/19 Aston Bury Barn
(70m to NW of house)

Barn, now a meeting hall. Mid Cl7. Timber frame on high old red
brick sill, dark weatherboarded at rear and tops of gables but
nogged with red brick elsewhere. Steep old red tile half-hipped
roof. A tall 6-bay aisled barn, facing E with gabled double-
doors in 2nd and 5th bays. Spur-sillwalls and sill plates carry
heavy jowled arcade posts with curved braces to arcade plates and
tie-beams. Mortices show there were aisle-ties now removed.
Heavy inclined curved queen-posts support clasped purlins with
curved wind-braces. The roof has been strengthened by the
addition of passing braces probably c1909, and straight collars
and mid-bay strainer beams. End bays partitioned off and C20
glazed doors have replaced barn doors.
