TL 21 SW WHEATHAMPSTEAD WATEREND

7/483 The White Cottage

GV II

Cottage. C16 or earlier. C17 and C18 features. Timber frame.
Painted brick and plaster. Plain tile roof with central ridge
stack. 1 storey and attics. Central door to lobby entrance. 3
gabled dormers. To right of door are 2 small C17 leaded casements
with ovolo and diamond mullions. A C18 casement between these.
Rearelevation has a small gabled stair turret opposite the door
with a small C17 1st floor window. A single storey C17 lean-to
adjoins this and has a 7-light mullioned casement window. C18
lean-to at W end. Interior has large central inglenook, the E
side with an early-mid C17 cut brick fire surround with 4-centre
arch. Formerly an open hall on this side. The roof above has
smoke-blackened rafters and smoke hood.
