Large house, c.1600 with C15th remains, moved to present site and rebuilt 1932-5. Sandstone rubble with stone slate roofs. North front has 2 tall projecting towers. Between them the recessed part of the facade has, at the far right, a projecting chimney stack. Adjoining it is a chimney projecting on corbels at lst floor level. At the left is a similar corbelled chimney. At each side of the doorway is a window of 3 round-headed lights. Above the door is an oriel with embattled transom and sill. Its 4 upper lights have trefoiled heads. At each side is a window of 2 trefoiled lights. These C15th windows are said to have been removed from the wing which remains on the original site of the house and forms Claughton Hall Farmhouse (q.v.) The door has a chamfered surround with triangular head. The right-hand tower has a hipped roof and an upper storey with 2 8-light ovolo-moulded mullioned and transomed windows separated by a king mullion. On each return wall are 6 further lights. The left-hand tower has a gable above a similar rebated and chamfered window, which has 2 lights on the left-hand return wall and 8 on the right. This tower projects from the right-hand side of the gable of a wing at right angles and becomes wider at 1st floor level. This wing has a chimney on its gable and is said to be otherwise C20th, the original wing in this position forming Claughton Hall Farmhouse. The south facade has a 2-storey gabled porch. The windows are rebated and hollow-chamfered on the ground floor and ovolo-moulded above. All have mullions and transoms. To the left are 2 of 6 lights, with one of 20 lights with king mullion on the 1st floor. To the right are ones of 6 and 4 1ights on the ground floor, with one of 8 lights above. The porch window has 2 transoms, with 18 lights at the front and 6 on each return wall. The porch door has a moulded surround with Tudor arch. The inner door has a chamfered surround. To the right the C20th replacement wing projects and has mullioned and mullioned and transomed windows. Inside, behind the central part of the facade, a 1st floor hall has been formed using a cruck barn from Eardisley in Herefordshire. There are 4 cruck trusses with collars, the purlins and rafters being exposed. In this room is a moulded fireplace with triangular head. To the east of the hall, at ground floor level, is linenfold panelling from Grundisburgh in Suffolk together with other reconstructed panelling. Re-set in a wall is a lintel carved with decorative motifs which include a winged face.
