Drinking Fountain and
Clock Tower at Queen Mary
College (University of London)

1840. White stone clock tower, incorporating marble basins for drinking fountains
on north and south sides. Eastern face has bas relief carving and western face
a tablet inscribed: "Presented to the trustees of the Peoples' Palace for the
benefit of the people of East London by Herbert Stern Esq in memory of his father
Baron de Stern". The clock tower is surmounted by a double cupola and has wide
cornices above and below clock. Fluted corner pilasters.
