Corner terraced town house. 1768-74 by Robert Adam. Brown brick, slate
roof. A substantial house in the Adelphi development with deep return to
John Adam Street. 3 storeys with attic storey and dormered mansard,
basement. 5 windows wide with central 3 bays grouped under pediment;
6 window return. Ground floor with later banded rustication in stucco and
bracketed cornice has central semicircular arched entrance with
vermiculated jambs and voussoirs, panelled door with patterned fanlight;
ground floor recessed sashes with vermiculated heads and keystones. Upper
floors have glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches. Cornice over 2nd
floor and parapet with coping. Similar details to return continued in
elevation of No. 2 John Adam Street. Cast iron area railings with urn
