Terraced town houses. c.1790-1800 (with some alterations), Portland
Estate development continuing Upper Wimpole Street. Stock brick with
channelled stucco ground floors; slate roofs. 4 storeys with dormered
mansard on 5 storeys (Nos. 7, 10 to 12), on basement. 3 window wide
fronts, No. 1 with 5-window return and entrance to Devonshire Street.
Wide elliptical arched doorways to left except for Nos. 11 and 12 and the
return doorway to No. 1; panelled doors with side lights, panelled jambs,
ornamented doorheads and fanlights some retaining patterned glazing.
Recessed sashes, those on ground floors of Nos. 1 and 10 to 12 set in
blind arcade and semicircular arched, under flat gauged arches to upper
floors and with stuccoed reveals. Plat band finishing off ground floor
stuccowork. Parapet copings; stucco cornice and blocking courses to
No. 8. Cast and wrought iron, early to mid C.19, geometric or scroll
patterned continuous balconies to 1st floor. Cast iron area railings with
urn finials.
