Railway Tunnel
- II

Tunnel, approx 280 m long. 1838 and 1880's. For Manchester and Bolton
Railway. Engineer J Hawkshaw. Brick and stone. Tunnel to north semi-
circular, brick lined, with large stone voissoirs. Tunnel to south.
Horseshoe-arched, lining of several courses of brick. Roll-moulded
surround; rubble abutments. Rock-faced band and parapet. Brick abut-
ments to west.
