2/12 Four Winds

House. Late C18. Hammer-dressed stone with graduated stone
slate roof. Single-depth plan with 4 bays and 2 storeys and
later additions to left and rear. Weathered plinth, plain
first floor band, modillion eaves cornice and raised quoins.
Door in bay 2 with pedimented Gibbs door surround. Above the
door a window has an architrave surround with keystone and
flat hood. Otherwise each floor has three 2-light flat-faced
stone mullion windows. Gable chimney stacks. The eaves
cornice breaks forward above the quoins. Polite
architectural elements on an otherwise vernacular building
are used to pleasing effect. Interior said to contain hewn
beams, turned baluster stair with moulded rail and 6-fielded
panel doors.
