War Memorial


War memorial. c.1920. Bronze statuary on stone_base. Angelic
figure and a battle-clad man with sword in hand stand on a
tapering square shaft. Addorsed lions stand on either side
on stone bases which bear the rolls of honour. Plaque bears
coat of arms and inscription - "Erected in honour of the men
of Ashton-under-Lyne and district who fought for king and
empire in the Great War". Stylobate.
