SANDWELL MB VICTORIA ROAD (off)
SO 99 SE
Tipton
4/150 Drinking foutain canopy,
Victoria Park

II

Canopy over drinking fountain. Late C19. Cast iron. Octagonal plan.
Decorated round columns have foliated capitals. Each side of the upper
part has a multi-cusped round arch and openwork foliage decoration. Above
each arch is a circle with ropework border containing a cartouche with a
figure of a stork. Around the border is inscribed: "KEEP THE PAVEMENT DRY".
On two sides there is an inscription, now partly illegible, instead of a
stork: "Presented to the inhabitants of Tipton by Mr & Mrs C M Waring in
commemoration of their golden wedding ... 190-". The canopy is surmounted
by a dome, with openwork decoration between ribs. There is a canopy of
similar design in Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich (qv).
