Parish church. Medieval and later. Flint with stone and brick dressings.
Graded slate roof. West tower, nave, south porch, chancel. Embattled C15
west tower with diagonal buttresses to the west. Curved stair turret with
slit and circular lights to the north face. Restored C15 west window of
3 lights; square ringing chamber openings one having a shield in the
tracery; hood moulds over. 2 light Perpendicular bell openings. Gargoyles.
3 bay buttressed nave, the buttresses to the north of post-Medieval brick.
Diagonal buttresses. North doorway has continuous moulding, a chamfer
merging into the arch with 2 rolls; hood mould. C19 lancet. 2 late
Medieval 3-light windows with embattled demi-transoms under 4-centred
arches; brick voussoirs. Remains of buttress beside eastern window. To
the south 2 similar windows, that to the west restored. Unbuttressed
chancel of 2 bays. No openings to the north but a C19 lean-to. To the
south 2 2-light restored windows with reticulated tracery. Between these
a priest's door with roll, hollow and fillet moulding; hood mould over.
East window of 3 lights with cusped reticulated tracery. C15 2-storey
porch of knapped flint, embattled to west. A cusped 2-light window with
quatrefoil light in the spandrel all under a hood mould to both east and
west. Doorway with shafts having polygonal abaci; quatrefoils enclosing
shields in the spandrels. Above the door a row of similar quatrefoils with
shields; then a square-headed window of 3 cusped lights, the centre light
having a bracket below; hood mould. Chequered flushwork parapet.
Continuously moulded nave doorway with hood mould; stoup to right. Interior.
Early C20 roofs. Tall tower arch with chamfered arris and inner arch.
Restored chancel arch with polygonal shafts and abaci; chamfered arch.
Re-used poppy-head bench-ends in the chancel. Restored chancel windows
with shafts and foliated capitals to the rere-arch. Restored octagonal
font, the panels to the bowl having cusped tracery. Painted wooden Stuart
arms. C19 rere-arch to north lancet.
