Large house. 1908-12 but said to be built to design of Sir Arthur Blomfield
d.1899. Half-timbered, brick, pebbledash and tile. Tiled roof. Irregular
plan. Irregular gabled road facade of 2 and 3 storeys and attic. Sash
windows, casements and oculi. Ground floor pebbledashed with a projecting
bay window with diamond leaded-panes. Single storey timbered gabled porch
behind which rises a 3-storey timbered square tower with pyramidal roof.
To the right of this a single storey wing with a sleep pitched roof and
mullioned and transomed oriel window. To the right again a lower, 2-storey,
3-bay range with open arcade to ground floor, casements to first floor,
the centre one under a gable. Further half-timbered ranges project from
left hand end. Brick stacks with clustered shafts. To the rear a series
of 6 gabled bays with pebbledash ground floors; casements; gable windows;
lefthand 3 bays canted. To the left, loggias on ground and first floors
with a further range to the left. Interior. Oak panelling to entrance
hall and reception rooms. Galleried 'hall' with stone fireplace. Upstairs
bathroom with contemporary tiles, probably Japanese.
