House. C16 and later. Underbuilt and rendered timber frame faced with brick to main
facade and brick gable ends. Plaintiled and French pantiled roofs. T plan. Main
wing of 2 storeys and 7 bays with 3 gabled 2-storey projections. Side projections
of C18 or C19 date with tumbled-in gables, kneelers and platbands. Central
projection or porch probably late C17 with an ovolo-moulded semi-circular headed
doorway with a projecting keystone and flanked by pilasters which are partially
obscured by a later crenellated fore-porch. Moulded brick plat-band and pilasters
continued up to base of gable which has tumbling-in and kneelers. C19 fenestration
with 2-leaf French windows with horizontal glazing bars beneath cambered heads at
ground floor and 2-light casements above. One gable end stack, one axial stack and
one stack at junction with cross-wing. Cross-wing of 2 storeys with attic and
4 bays of 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars beneath rectangular hood
moulds. Crow-stepped central pediment with oculus continued by a crenellated parapet
to either side and underlined by a moulded cornice. Crenellations and crow-steps
with wooden copings. Gable kneelers with ball finials. 2 gabled dormers with
decorative barge boards. Gable-end stacks. Interior. Jowled wall posts with arch-
braced ties. One re-positioned roll-moulded spine beam. Upper floor originally
open to roof which has 2 surviving closed trusses with clasped purlins and reduced
principals. 2 internal doorways with 4-centred heads, chamfered beam with simple
stops and one original fireplace with a large wooden lintel.
